Keeping silver safe is something you will need to invest heavily in; you’re going to need to either have a safe installed or better yet have one custom built. No, no, no silly, this is about how to keep your silver safe from from tarnish!
I pretty much wear only silver because it’s more affordable than gold, but it retains its value, at least in terms of the silver content and it can last forever. I used to store my earrings on this earring holder:
It’s alright but I have two issues with it: one the earrings get tangled and fall all over the place if you knock it over (which I do all the time). Two if you do have silver earrings they’re going to be very prone to tarnishing being exposed to our life blood: oxygen.
The solution is fairly simple: seal the silver off from air. I have lots of little jewelry sized plastic zipper bags, but first I cleaned all of the earrings that were tarnished, let them dry and then I put each pair in a bag and organized them by general size: Small to medium/small and medium to large. I had some small acrylic trays that were the perfect size for filing the bags of earrings. I wrapped some of my favorite washi tape around the top to give it a nice little touch of soft color.
Earrings are the last thing I put on before I run out the door and I got pretty frustrated when I would have a pair planned out only to find that it needed to be cleaned, sometimes you have to change your whole outfit due to earring fails. It’s a little inconvenient to keep each pair or each piece of silver in a zipper bag, but in the long run it will save you frustration and save your jewelry from getting dingy and bleh.
Right now I am in the process of redoing all of my jewelry storage and organization, this is just phase one…next on the list is bracelets! What do you do to keep your jewelry organized or safe from pesky problems?
