You will need the following to make the ‘finger paints’ at home.
- 3 teaspoons of sugar
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- ½ a cup of cornstarch
- 2 cups of water
- Small containers
- A non-stick spatula
- A vessel or utensil
- Funnel (if the containers or jars have a small opening)
- First step
Take a small saucepan or a utensil for making the paint. It is preferable to use non-stick utensils. Otherwise, you could use a stainless steel pan or utensil to make the paint.
- Second step
Turn on the heat and adjust the temperature to a ‘Medium-Low’. This adjustment of the temperature allows the ingredients to mix well and prevent it from burning.
- Third step
When the utensil or vessel has heated to the required amount carefully, add the ingredients.
At first, add the two cups of water. When it is warm enough, add the three teaspoons of sugar and ½ a teaspoon of salt. When it is added to the water, stir the mixture well until it all dissolves. Then lastly, add the ½ a cup of cornstarch to the mixture that is warm. Upon adding the cornstarch, stir it well until you find a smooth textured mixture. Continue the stirring process until you find the mixture turns thick and get a smooth texture to it.
- Fourth step
Check the mixture for the result you have been looking for. Once gained, take the vessel or utensil off the stove or electric induction.

Once the mixture cools off and settles down, pour the mixture into the various containers carefully so that you avoid spilling. Once the mixture has been transferred into the container, add the food coloring. Choose the colors and blend them with newer shades of your choice, whichever be it, add the colors and mix it well.
