Whether you’re at work or on your spare time, that it’s morning or night, you went for a walk or relax simply at home, reading a book or watching TV, you have the same condition: you’re always exhausted. Not that you’d ever taken part in a competition but you’re daily exhausted and you constantly yawn. What can it be?
Anemia, the main cause of fatigue in women
Uterine fibroids and polyps, heavy menstrual periods or recent birth of a child involve large blood loss which can lead to anemia. Blood exam indicates a deficiency of hemoglobin and red blood cells and the consequence is insufficient oxygenation of organs and internal tissues. Also, anemia can be caused by internal bleeding, iron deficiency, folic acid, Vitamin B12 or chronic diseases such as kidney failure. In all these cases, besides fatigue, symptoms are dizziness, pale skin, weakness, and suddenly occurring forms, loss of consciousness.
Treatment usually consists of taking supplements containing indispensable amino acids, minerals and vitamins, especially B group and C, as well as the establishment of a diet rich in iron: spinach, broccoli and red meat.
Hypothyroidism, thyroid hormone deficiency
If you are struggling with laziness general, coupled with a slight depression, it might be about hypothyroidism, a disease that occurs when the thyroid gland does not produce enough hormone (whose role is to control the way in which the body consume energy) . The risk of developing hypothyroidism increases with age and, according to the American Thyroid Foundation, about 17% of women that reached the age of 60 years do not realize that they have such disorders.
The disease is caused by an immune system disorder, known as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. The body’s defense system attacks the thyroid gland, destroying the cells responsible for producing secreted hormones. Treatment consists of taking synthetic hormones.
Urinary tract infections
Although women tend to associate this condition with symptoms such as frequent urination doctors warn that fatigue may be the first sign of kidney disease. Urinary infection occurs more frequently in women and is caused by bacteria entering the urinary tract, facilitated by the position of the urethral orifice near the vaginal opening and the anus. The treatment consists in administering an oral antibiotic.
For added power, many women resort to stimulants like a cup of coffee or a glass of cola, several times throughout the day. Unfortunately, some of them so-called revitalization treatment has the opposite effect to the one intended. In an article published by the prestigious US Pharmacist shows that energizing substance abuse lead, in some cases, to fatigue. As people try to banish fatigue by drinking products containing caffeine, fatigue is becoming more pronounced.
We all know that food energizes us, but things are not so. Some doctors believe that intolerance to certain foods can cause sleepiness. Intolerance may take about three or four days, until the body completely eliminate ingested substances. The condition often appears as “masked”, meaning that the person who drinks harmful food will never suspect that the trouble is caused precisely by it. Food intolerance is caused most often by fructose, gluten, lactose, alcohol, and certain types of fibers, food additives and preservatives.
People suffering from this disorder stop breathing several times during sleep for a few seconds or even a minute. In this way, sleep is shallow, poor quality, and those concerned feel exhausted during the day. The cause of sleep apnea is airways obstruction, especially in obese women, and snoring is the first symptom. Treatment involves lifestyle changes, adopting a diet for weight loss, smoking cessation and, not least, the use of a special device during sleep (CPAP), which keeps airways open by a comfortable masks.
If you are very tired after work that does not require committing too much energy, it might be time to consult a cardiologist. That’s because it is possible that your heart is not pumping enough blood flow to the rest of the organs and tissues, and lack of oxygen and essential nutrients is reflected in fatigue.
