12 Natural Remedies for Gas and Bloating

Of course, a discussion about gas and bloating can cause shame and giggling, but someone has to talk about this, because all of us deal with it. Whether it is a silent room or a crowded elevator, the farting may be impossible to avoid. Although it is an inoffensive phenomenon, it causes much embarrassment. However, gas and bloating can be a symptom of a heath disorder. Fortunately, there are many simple natural remedies that can help you get rid of this uncomfortable problem.

1. Drink peppermint tea
Peppermint is effective in easing gas pains. The menthol from the peppermint essential oil has the antispasmodic property, so it relaxes the muscle of the digestive tract and soothes nerves. Sometimes, you can have stomachaches because of stress or nervousness, so here is when a hot cup of peppermint tea can help you.
We are used to prepare tea by introducing the tea bag into a cup of hot water, keep it there for 3-5 minutes, remove the tea bag and have our tea. But this method does not allow the tea to completely infuse, so the taste is not totally revealed. Instead, proceed in the following way:
– Put your tea bag into the cup and pour on it some freshly boiled water;
– Cover your cup with a small plate;
– Leave it for 10-15 minutes;
– Take off the plate and remove the tea bag, squeezing every last drop;
– Enjoy your tea.
Prepare in the same way the peppermint tea.

2. Release it
If you have gas, do not hold it in. Of course, it is not aesthetic to do it in a crowded place, but if you have some free space for yourself, do it. If you hold it in for too long, this will just worsen the situation and besides gas you can get a terrible pain.

3. Ginger
Ginger is a great remedy if you deal with stomach flu, indigestion, or you just feel that your tummy is irritated. Ginger has in its composition two elements that help the intestinal tract to relax and ease any inflammation. It is about gingerols and shogaols. The root of the ginger prevents the formation of gas, or helps in its elimination. For preparing tea from ginger you will need:
– 1 fresh ginger root
– a grater
– 1 cup of hot water
– lemon and honey
All you have to do is wash very well a piece of ginger root under warm water, cut it into 4-6 slices and place them in a cup. Add a little bit of honey and lemon, if you like, and pour hot water over the ingredients. Cover the cup for about 10 minutes and then have your tea before or after the meal, to help digestion.
You can also try to eat a teaspoon of freshly grated ginger before your meal.

4. Caraway
Caraway is a remedy used from ancient times for curing bloating. To help you body loose the gas, eat a handful of caraway seeds, or crunch some caraway crackers. If you suffer regularly of bloating, eat a pinch of caraway seeds every morning until you feel that you got rid of the problem.

5. Chamomile tea
If you do not prefer peppermint tea, or it does not give the desired results, try chamomile tea. Chamomile in general is a herb which has numerous benefits on our health. It has antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, relaxing properties, relieving the pain caused by heartburn, indigestion and other factors. And of course chamomile is efficient in gas release. Drink chamomile tea if you have heartburn and peppermint tea if you suffer of indigestion. Prepare the chamomile tea the same way like you do in the case of the peppermint tea. You can sweeten it with some honey and add lemon to it. In both cases, avoid adding milk.

6. Pumpkin
As mentioned above, the most often met reason of gas is indigestion, which can be caused by a too big quantity of consumed fiber. In this case, pumpkin can be very helpful, because it has the characteristic to decrease the created amount of gas. You can add pumpkin in any meal or even use it as a main ingredient in your meal.

7. Activated charcoal
Activated charcoal can be a suitable remedy for gas. Activated charcoal represents charcoal that is oxidized, process which creates its porous structure. It is believed that these pores are able to trap chemicals in our body, property for which it is used in drug overdoses. Probably the same process works in the case of the gas released by the bacteria from the intestines. Before taking it in, consult a doctor. Find out if it will be really effective in your case, depending on the cause. Also, read the dosing on the packaging. You can take it as powder, capsule, or tablet form.

8. Chew food thoroughly
Gas is formed when our digestive tract hardly breaks down the food, whether it is about fiber, that is hard to assimilate, or food that we did not chew thoroughly. If you will chew the food thoroughly, then it will digest easier and quicker, meaning that it will not stay in the intestines for too long and will not cause the formation of gas.

Lemon boosts the production of HCL (hydrochloric acid) that is responsible for breaking down the food. More HCL means more efficient breaking down and as a result less bloating and gas. For preparing the beverage, squeeze three parts from a fresh lemon into a cup of warm water. Drink it in the morning on an empty stomach. If you do not have at the moment fresh lemons, you can use 1-2 tablespoons of lemon juice which you can buy from every food market. Make sure that your drink is cloudy.

10. Adopt a healthy diet
